What’s your name and what do you do?
Mischelle Stroud, I am a model who enjoys representing plus-size women in runway, print and social media in a body positive way.
How long have you been doing what you do?
I started modeling in 2019, when a friend of mine who owns a local boutique, All is Fair in Love and Fashion, started doing fashion shows to represent her brand. In particular, the Aging like fine wine show for women over 40 years old. My first show was amazing and I was immediately bitten by the modeling bug.
What have been your challenges?
Getting the same opportunities as straight size models. I have found that while local agencies ask for plus-size models, they really mean mid-size, around a size 12/14. The most common size for women in the US falls in the 18 range, which means that even in the plus world, the model representation has not been size inclusive.
What are your greatest accomplishments?
Finding Model Icon and having the opportunity to model in Chicago this past summer was amazing! The production was top notch, NYC level and really made me change my view on how fashion shows are run. Model Icon also gave me the modeling training that I couldn’t get locally; showcasing different styles and walks.
What are your plans for the future?
My plan is to represent Kentucky in the MRI pageant as Ms. Plus Kentucky this June. I am excited about the show and it will be my first time participating in pageantry arena.
